So, what's actually different about a Blue Spaces retreat?

There are a lot of retreats out there, and if we’re honest, a lot of them can look quite similar. So rather than tell you ours are special, we thought we'd tell you what actually happens: who comes, what we do all day, and what people are hoping for when they arrive.

What people actually come for

Before every retreat we send a little form asking what people are hoping for. Some examples of recent answers we’ve had from guests: "disconnect from normal life." "Relax and recharge." "Take a moment to breathe." One person wanted to come back and build on what started last time, and bring her best friend along. Another wanted space to think about a house move and her career before a big birthday next year.

Mostly people want a bit of quiet, some good food, and the chance to hear themselves think. That's what we try to give them.

It's a small group, so you actually get to know people

We keep group sizes between 12 to 16 people. So you can get to know everyone a little. Or a lot!

We also hire the whole house, so it's just us. There are no other guests. No early morning battle for a sun lounger by the pool!

There are two of us, and we do quite different things

Laura is a BACP-registered psychotherapist and has been teaching yoga for over 15 years. Nikita is an accredited coach who has spent 15 years in events, marketing and running businesses.

Everyone gets 1:1 time with both of us. What you do with it is up to you. Some people want to talk through a job they're not sure about any more. Some want to focus more on the movement side. Both are completely fine. Nobody will make you share your feelings in a circle (unless you'd like to, in which case, lovely).

There will be Blue Spaces.

The clue's in the name really. "Blue spaces" is what researchers call places near water, like the sea, pools, lakes and rivers, and spending time near them is linked to feeling calmer. So we build it into every retreat. In Mallorca that means a dip at 7.45am before morning yoga. In Portugal it's a swim under a waterfall. In Scotland in January it's a cold sea dip, followed quite quickly by the sauna!

Someone else does the cooking

Most of our retreats have a private chef cooking with whatever's local and in season. There's brunch after morning yoga and dinner outside if the weather plays along. There's no detox menu, nobody's counting anything, and yes, there's wine if that’s your thing too.

We leave you plenty of time to do nothing

A typical day in Mallorca looks something like this:

  • 7.45am sunrise dip

  • 8.30am morning yoga

  • 10am brunch

  • 11.30am free time (pool, hiking, beach, tennis, nap)

  • 3pm optional 1:1 coaching, movement, therapy or massage.

  • 5pm restorative and yin yoga

  • 7pm dinner with our private chef

That big gap in the middle is on purpose. It's usually when people finally put their phone down, read half a novel by the pool or nod off in the shade. We'd recommend all three.

Coming on your own? Most people do

Most of our guests book on their own, and quite a few tell us they nearly didn't come because of it. By the second evening you'd never know who came with whom. We have solo rooms on most retreats if you want your own space, and shared rooms if you'd rather keep the cost down or share with a friend or family member.

Our retreats are open to everyone, by the way. Whoever you are, if you fancy a few days of sea swims, good food and a proper rest, you're very welcome.

It doesn't stop at the airport

We both work with people 1:1 online all year round, Nikita as a coach and Laura as a therapist. So if something comes up on retreat that you'd like to keep working on, you can. Laura also hosts movement and breathwork practices online.
